Best Iron Supplements for Anemia

Like many women, especially African American women, I have had issues with anemia for quite some time now. The type of anemia that I suffer from is an iron deficiency anemia. Apparently I don’t have enough iron to bring oxygen to my body parts which can leave me feeling weak and tired. My anemia stems from my excessive monthly blood loss due to having a huge fibroid.
My doctors have suggested many things to help my issues including iron infusions, blood transfusions, going on the pill, taking NSAIDS (Read how these gave me an Duodenal ulcer here) and of course hysterectomy. Yikes! Throughout all the suggestions I’m always told to take iron supplements but OMG…..have you ever taken this stuff before? It is the worst. Well that’s not fair to say. Maybe you enjoy horrific stomach pain, gas and constipation. These side effects have been a literal thorn in my side and make me choose to skip my supplements quite often.
Since I hate the pill form supplements and the recent studies stating that taking iron shortens women’s lives have scared the heck out of me, I started searching for ways to get a better, more natural form of iron.

My high iron Blackstrap Molasses was pretty good but I’m not fond of the taste of molasses and since I don’t do smoothies much anymore I don’t have anything to use it in. Back to the drawing board. Well I just found what I think are the best iron supplements for anemia hands down! Its called Pur-Absorb Iron by Spatoneand it is freaking amazing! Why am I so pleased with Pur-Absorb as a supplement? It is all natural spring water! It doesn’t get more simple than that. It is ferrous sulfate (just like the pills that cause all the stomach pain) but it doesn’t come with all the discomfort. That’s because it has a lower dose of iron. You don’t need a higher dose because this supplement is so easily absorbed. I mean, the reason you have to take such high doses of traditional iron supplements is because it is not easily absorbed, so most of it doesn’t even get used, but this iron rich spring water has a 40% absorption rate! I just happened upon this supplement but the reviews are great and I feel better energy already (its been a week). I have full confidence that my iron/ hemoglobin levels will be in the normal range in no time. It’s really easy to take so no more giant horse pills and no belly massages to relieve the extreme gassy feeling. I haven’t read about any side effects. So with all these pros what are the cons? There have been complaints about the taste but I’ve never drank it plain anyway. Even if I did it is a less than an ounce so I could get through it. It has a sort of irony metallic taste (Iron is metal). Well to combat this AND help with absorption just mix it with a little orange juice or even Emergen-C . In case you haven’t heard, vitamin C increases iron absorption. It can also often be found on sale and is cheaper to buy online for me. I’m so happy I found this. It’s all natural and really the best iron supplements for anemia! Wanna try it? Click here-> Pur-Absorb Iron by Spatone

Have you tried this already? How did you like it? If you decide to get some, come back and let me know how you like it.
